The two-stringed erhu has been called “the Chinese violin.” Both instruments share many similarities in technique, but the erhu boasts a longer history than the viol family of bowed instruments. The erhu is capable of producing a wide variety of sounds, from imitating elegant sounds of nature to the plaintive cries of a grieving mother.
